  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from lemoncakemeg -- Kinda pointless : I really wanted to like this book and support this author, but I found the book to just be, meh. In thinking back on what i read, I can't think of one discernible or memorable piece of advice. It just kinda felt like a summary of what the author had gone through in her own journey towards finding a purpose and the stories of many of her clients. None of them were all that interesting though. I think the revelation of the book is that we all seek freedom and that's what drives us to find a career or purpose that gives us that feeling of freedom. So okay. I learned that for myself a long time ago, and even if the book had revealed that important insight to me, the lesson was learned by about 10 pages in. Just don't know what the rest of the book was for... ( Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Rose -- The kindest (and best) kick in the pants you'll get and probably need this year. : I can't give Beth and her book enough praise. I've taken Beth's online courses, as well as seen her speak in person in NYC. Although I always felt very close and connected to her work, I think I feel even more strongly about Freedom Speaker. I preordered it on the Kindle, but have since purchased three more paperback copies, one for myself and two others for friends that I know will benefit from Beth's inspiring words. This may become my most gifted book of the year. Not only have I now purchased four copies, but I've also decided to download the audible version, which is recorded/read by Beth herself. Personally, I think all of these mediums work best together - I start by reading a chapter, and letting it sink in. I follow that by listening to the same chapter in Beth's voice, exactly as she means for us to hear it. She is kind and gentle, yet says what needs to be said. I finally follow that with the journaling exercises in a notebook dedicated to just this purpose. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2017 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Maggie -- A Worthwhile Book to Read! : so I was really looking forward to reading her book. And it did not disappoint. While some of the ideas were similar to the course, the way the book was put together helped me to see things in my life with more clarity. And it's not just about finding the freedom to be creative, it's about finding the freedom to be who you are wherever you are. And recognizing those things that are holding you back. For me it was not believing in myself and having a lot of negative self-talk going on inside. I was holding myself back, not my circumstances or the important people in my life. It is a worthwhile book to read, and Beth writes in an easy engaging style that draws you in. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2017 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Paula -- Really a wonderful book and I can't recommend it enough for anyone ... : in and aiding you with putting together a plan of action and succinctly untangling your thoughts. It will assist you in overcoming the intimidation and gives you the tools to face your fears head on, one step at a time. It has become the guide book for my creative path. Really a wonderful book and I can't recommend it enough for anyone who is feeling stuck. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2017 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jacquie -- I see this book loved and tattered and highlighted like crazy : This book is incredible. I first bought an audio book to listen as I travelled for work. After the first hour of listening I bought the book so I could use it with journaling and make notes in the book itself. I see this book loved and tattered and highlighted like crazy! Her insights and beautiful explanations open up a world of thoughts that inspire one to move forward knowing that there is hope in the journey! (Even when you are 55, have had a life long dream of of an art business and motivational type business but have no idea how to gell the two! Not to mention feeling that it might be too late!) Beth's book and thoughts and ideas have me taking a second thought! I urge anyone who is dissatisfied with their life or career choices to take a breathe, read her book and realize she is the real deal and has a gift--a gift to help others get back on track... thank you Beth! • 2.0 out of 5 stars from MR -- I am so very disappointed with this book. : In order to appreciate this book you have to be female and also have children. Maybe 10% of this book is relatable to someone who doesn’t have children. Maybe 5% of that is useful. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 10, 2020 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Maria Wyatt -- ๐Ÿ’• Like so many of the others that have read it : This book has given me a dialogue for my life. ๐Ÿ’• Like so many of the others that have read it, I couldn't put the book down and read it straight through, so I'm now reading it a second time and completing all of the exercises. Again, like so many others that have read the book, I have taken redundancy from a corporate job that I had worked in for 19 years (which I am so relieved to be out of btw), and spent the last year as a mum and housewife for the last year. It's been great to decompress but I was so institutionalised by my previous role, that I felt nervous about taking control of my life and looking for the right direction. I had a stack of ideas but never acted on them for fear of going it alone and working for myself. I've now got my first freelance role and am very excited. This book inspired me in the same way that Elizabeth Gilbert's "Big Magic" did, and I am spreading the word to so many of my professional friends who have all recently taken redundancy from corporate roles and are trying to start their own businesses. This is definitely the kind of book that you keep referring back to for guidance and inspiration - I loved the amazing case studies and want to visit the yoga retreat in Costa Rica and I'll definitely be visiting Mettricks in Southampton, as it's not too far from us. I really can't praise this book enough, it has lifted my spirits and been a huge inspiration at a time when I desperately needed it. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 30, 2017 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Rachel K -- Read it, spread your wings and fly! : This book spoke to my soul and I just couldn’t put it down! ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 4, 2017 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from TillynWilf -- A Keeper : I purchased this after reading Beth's book Wabi Sabi - a totally different book, honestly written with exercises. I have read a lot of self-help books and the strategies and advice in this book are useable. I like the exercises although haven't completed all of them yet - they do highlight where you have lost your way. I didn't blow me away but sometimes the ones that don't resonate more, I also like the examples she gives - she has an awful lot of amazing friends! It is nice to read a book like this from a young British author, written with non of the psycho-babble you often find in these type of books. Recommend if you want to change your life gradually with thought. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 17, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lisa Williams -- A truly invigorating and invaluable gift! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฆ„๐Ÿ•Š : After years of dipping in and out of feeling unfulfilled, lost and in a state of 'stuck-ness' in my daily grind and attempted creative endeavours, I purchased this book on an, initially, rather cynical whim.
